Nassau police seize 2 guns in separate incidents; 5 in custody

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Police continue to remove illegal firearms off the streets of New Providence, with the seizure of two firearms and the arrest of five persons overnight.

In the first incident, shortly after 10:30pm on Saturday 28th November 2015, Mobile Division Officers were on routine patrol on Huyler Street, when an adult male walking in the area aroused their suspicion. The officers accosted the male and found a handgun with several rounds of ammunition in his possession. The adult male was then taken into custody.

In the second incident, shortly after 1:00am on Sunday 29th November 2015, Northeastern Division

Officers were on routine patrol on Collins Avenue, when they saw a vehicle in the area aroused their suspicion. The officers ordered the occupants of the vehicle to stop but they refused and sped off. After a short chase the officers brought the vehicle to a stop on Mt. Royal Avenue. The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a handgun with several rounds of ammunition in the vehicle. Two adult males along with two adult females were taken into custody.
