POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING A SHOOTING INCIDENT

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are seeking the public’s help in solving a shooting incident that has left a man detained in hospital that occurred on Thursday 20th November 2014.

According to reports, around 8:00pm, a man was walking on Hospital Lane, when two men armed with a handgun shot him in the arm before fleeing on foot. The victim was transported to hospital, where he is detained in stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.


POLICE SEIZED 2 HANDGUNS, 1 MAN ARRESTED


POLICE are reporting the seizure of two illegal handguns and the arrest of one man in two separate incidents that occurred on Thursday 20th November 2014.

In the first incident, shortly before 11:00am, officers from the Flying Squad were on patrol on Milton Street, when they observed two men acting suspiciously. The men on seeing the officers fled on foot. The officers gave chased and caught one of the men. A search was conducted of the man caught and a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition was found in his possession. The suspect was taken into custody for questioning. The other suspect is being sought.

In the second incident, around 10:00pm, officers from the Firearm Tracing and Investigations Unit acting on intelligence went to Union Village off Wulff Road, where they uncovered a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition in an abandoned building. No one was arrested for this incident

13 ARRESTED DURING POLICE ANTI - CRIME OPERATION


POLICE are reporting the arrest of 13 persons for a number of serious offenses including and armed robbery and dangerous drugs during two separate anti-crime operations on Thursday 20th November 2014.

The operations were aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.

The operations, which are consistent with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities, were under the command of Chief Superintendents Theophilus Cunningham and Ashton Greenslade.

5 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of five (5) persons during the past 24 hours for various criminal offences.


WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP - REDUCING VIOLENCE

• Look for ways to settle arguments and disagreements without violence. Remember: if you resort to violence to settle disputes, a child may well follow your example. Be a good role model.
• Use good manners to help ease tensions that can lead to violence. Teach kids that showing respect for themselves and for the needs of others can prevent crime.
• Report crimes and suspicious activities to police; agree to testify when necessary. If you want to live in a safe community, stand up for what you believe in.
• Don’t support illegal activities, like buying stolen property or using illegal drugs. It’s the wrong message to send to a child, and it involves you in criminal activity. It also encourages more crime that hurts you and your neighbours.
