RBPF Nassau: 2 in serious condition after suspects shoot at police, 6 arrested & 3 stolen vehicles recovered

Nassau, Bahamas - According to reports, around 2:50am, police received a report of gunshots being fired in the area of East Street South and Malcolm Road. When police arrived in the area of East Street South and Soldier Road they observed three suspicious vehicles on the premises of a service station. The occupants of the vehicles on seeing the police attempted to speed off, however police was able to block them in.

One of the men then exited one of the vehicles brandishing a handgun and began firing at police. Police returned fire shooting the suspect to the side. Police also recovered a handgun the suspect dropped to the ground.

One of the vehicles then sped off resulting in high-speed chase. When the suspects got into the Winders Terrace area the suspects fired several shots at the police, police returned fire but the suspects refused to stop. The chase ended at the junction of East Street and Sapodilla Boulevard, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a Honda vehicle. The suspect again began firing at police, police returned fire and one of the suspects ran out of the vehicle and was shot to the lower back.

Police during this ordeal arrested a total of six adult males and recovered three Honda vehicles suspected of being stolen.

The two suspects, who were shot, were taken to hospital where they remain in serious condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
