RBPF Nassau conduct Anti-Crime Operation: 17 arrests - 2 handguns seized, 1 arrest

POLICE SEIZE FIREARM, ONE MAN ARRESTED

Nassau, Bahamas - A 20 year old man was taken into custody after police seized a handgun Friday 5th September 2014. According to reports, shortly after 12:00 midnight, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit and the Flying Squad were at Nigeria Close, Flamingo Gardens where they observed two men acting suspiciously. The men on seeing the officers fled on foot. The officers gave chase and caught one of the men who threw an object to the ground. The object was retrieved and found to be an illegal handgun. The suspect was taken into custody. Police are searching for the other suspect.

ISLAND WIDE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION NETS 17 ARRESTS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, police conducted an island wide anti -crime operation that saw large contingents of police officers from the Uniform Divisions under the command of Assistant Commissioners Leon Bethel fan out across New Providence on Thursday 4th September 2014.  During the operation police targeted Persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.

The operation resulted in 17 persons arrested for a number of serious and minor offences. Additionally, 17 drivers cited for various traffic violations.In addition to the arrests police also seized a quantity of dangerous drugs.

POLICE RECOVER FIREARM

According to reports, shortly after 11:00pm on Wednesday 4th September 2014, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit acting on intelligence went to Bimini Avenue, where they uncovered a handgun in a bushy area. No one was arrested for this incident.
