RBPF Nassau: Police investigating investigating 2 separate shooting incidents

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENTS- ADULT MALE IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding two separate shooting incidents Sunday, 8th December, 2019 which has left a juvenile male and an adult male detained in hospital and an adult male in custody.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 2:00pm a juvenile male was visiting relatives at Romer Street, Fox Hill, when another juvenile male, found a firearm inside the home. As they were playing with it, the firearm discharged a bullet, hitting one of the males in the groin. He was transported to hospital and is detained in stable condition.

A 33 year old male resident of the home was taken into custody in connection with this incident and the weapon was recovered. Investigations are ongoing.

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly before 9:00pm, a male was standing on the corner of Honeysuckle Street, Culmersville, when a small gray vehicle drove through the corner. Two armed men came from the vehicle and opened fire in his direction, before getting into the vehicle and speeding away. The injured man was transported to hospital and is listed in stable condition.

11 PERSONS ARRESTED IN POLICE “SILENT NIGHT”
OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2019, police assisted by Marines from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force conducted operations in various parts of New Providence, Wednesday, 4th December, 2019, which led to the arrest of a number of persons.

The ongoing police operations are aimed at suppressing crime in a number of areas and to send a clear message to those responsible for committing criminal acts on members of our communities, that the police will proactively identify them and ensure that they are prosecuted and brought to justice.

The weekend’s operation led to the arrest of eleven (11) persons for a number of criminal offenses including harboring a fugitive, possession of dangerous drugs, armed robbery and causing harm. One (1) searched warrant was executed, thirty-five (35) fixed penalty notices were issued to drivers, and six (6) arrests for outstanding Court warrants.

27 FIXED PENALTY NOTICES ISSUED TO DRIVERS BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS IN PAST 24 HOUR 

Officers from the Mobile Divisions conducted road checks in various parts of the island. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of six (6) persons for outstanding criminal warrants, over the past 24 hours.

Additionally, 27 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations.

PREVENTION CRIME TIP - TAKE A STAND AGAINST ILLEGAL FIREARMS BY COOPERATING WITH THE POLICE IN PROVIDING INFORMATION REGARDING THE WHEREABOUTS OF ANY ILLEGAL FIREARM.
