POLICE are reporting the seizure of two illegal firearms, quantities of dangerous drugs and the arrest of 29 persons for a number of offences including, murder, armed robbery and possession of dangerous drugs as they intensified their Island-wide anti-crime operation in New last evening.

The operation, a joint effort by several units within the force, saw large contingents of police officers under the command of Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Bethel fan out across New Providence, as part of the force’s strategy to cut down on criminal activity by targeting problem locations and persons engaged in criminal activities such as, murder, armed robbery, rape, shootings, stolen vehicle, firearms drugs and a number of minor offences.

During last night’s operation police made two significant firearm arrests:

The first arrest occurred around 9:00pm on Saturday 6th December 2014, when officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit arrested two men ages 22 and 21 after they found an illegal handgun in a vehicle they were driving on Taylor Street, Nassau Village.

The second arrest occurred shortly after 3:00am on Sunday 7th December 2014, when officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit arrested a 59 year old woman and a 32 – year old man after they found an illegal handgun at their home located at Rupert Dean Lane.

Additionally, police cited 234 traffic violators and closed a number of clubs for operating in breach of the Business License Act.

Police credits the success of this ongoing major assault on crime to excellent team-work, intelligence led policing, precise execution of its policing plan and support from members of the public.
