Suspect who fired at police shot dead in Nassau

Nassau, Bahamas - Her Majesty’s Coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police on Wednesday 30th  November 2016.

According to reports, shortly after 1:00pm, police were conducting a major operation in search of a man wanted murder and armed robbery in Nassau Village, when they encountered a group of males behind a home on Peach Street off Spruce Street. The males on seeing the police fled on foot. Police gave chase and were fired upon by two of the males armed with handguns. Police returned fire and fatally shot one of the males who was pronounced dead on the scene. A handgun with 13 live rounds of ammunition along with a facemask was recovered from the suspect. Police were also able to arrest four of the males, who are wanted for questioning reference to murder and other serious crimes.

Her Majesty’s Deputy Coroner, Mr. Andrew Forbes visited the scene and is now leading this investigation.
