From:TheBahamasWeekly.com Robbin's Nest - Robbin Whachell To someone who prefers to uplift, than pull down, the grave news can be very disheartening and overwhelming at times. Now, not only can I find out what ills plague my own community or country, but I can get detailed reports, or graphic videos or photos online of terrible things happening in other parts of the world. As someone who keeps an eye on the online world news threads as well as local threads, I can tell you that about 95% of ANY news is negative! We’ve become a race that is wrapped in sensationalized drama of how awful humans can really be. What is it about us that we seem to latch on to the bad stuff? Why are we so into finding out all the gory details? Have we reverted back to the days when it was a common pastime to make watching hangings at the gallows almost the same as, and as entertaining as, taking in a live stage play? The Bahamas is not a large country, but in the scheme of the world, it is a country all the same… in the news it has just as much listening significance as any other nation. Hey, if they feed it to us, we will listen. When one focuses on murder, the murder continues. The more the press shouts the vile, and corrupt in our face, the more we see it everywhere. Mother Teresa once said, “Do not invite me to a rally about war, but if you have a rally on peace, I will be there”... She knew what this was all about. I am not saying that nothing should be reported, but rather the opposite. We can all tell everyone what is wrong with our world, but what do we do to fix it? Let us get onto providing solutions! I know of a very worthy, extremely positive and religious-minded group that opens their groups newsletters with the murder count of the Bahamas in the first line. It infuses us with dread and with a feeling of powerlessness. We don’t need to turn a blind eye on it, but rather enlighten ourselves to see the positive, help our brethren, teach our children, show by example, and focus on light and good. I’d like to suggest watching the controversial, but enlightening movie, “Bowling for Columbine” . Michael Moore speaks on the negative influence of our media and how the “War on violence, war on drugs, war on crime” really only perpetuate the problem. It becomes a mind trap. I’d like to also suggest watching another movie called, “The Secret”. How the law of attraction (what we think about, we bring about) brings us what we focus on. "As a man thinketh, in his heart so he is...", or in another more simple way, "Garbage in, Garbage OUT." As the editor of this website, I can tell you that we will leave the negative for the other guys, and be a venue that perpetuates what this country is truly about, a Christian nation of people helping people.
