Freeport, Bahamas - On Saturday February 4^th , 2012 the Grand Bahama Cyclist Club will launch its first ever Junior Cycling Club. The club will meet at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex this and every Saturday at 9:00am and is open to students aged 10 to 18. The goal of this program is to promote the sport of cycling on the island of Grand Bahama with the hope of carrying a 5 member team to compete in the Independence National Cycling Championships held during the month of July in New Providence. Beyond that, the goal of the club is to have one of its members compete as part of the Junior National Team at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships, which will be held later in the year.

The start of this Junior Club also marks the start of the GBCC Points Series, which is a series of races that will be held until the month of October...

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Mary, Star of the Catholic School’s campus was transformed into a picnic park for students to enjoy lunch with their parents and friends. An invitation was extended to Mary Star’s parents to partake in this communal event. The student body was divided into their four houses Brendan, Gantley, Groves and Leonard. Everyone got into the action by sporting their house colours (blue, yellow, green and red). Each house was allocated a portion of the campus to picnic on.

Not even in their dreams did the staff members imagine how well the turnout of parents would have been. Scores of parents dropped in to socialize with the mighty stingrays. Each house put a different spin on their picnic affair. There was a potluck meal, a pizza party, packed lunches and take out. Many brought enough to share with others...

LEXINGTON, Ky - For Linville Johnson and other members of the NTA Faith-based Tourism Advisory Council, months of planning came to a satisfying conclusion at the association’s recent convention in Las Vegas, where more than 60 experienced tourism professionals gathered for the first-ever Faith-based Tourism Leaders Forum. It was only a beginning, though, Johnson said.

“We explored a variety of opportunities in faith tourism during the forum,” said Johnson, the director of faith-based tourism for the Islands of the Bahamas. “As exciting as the meeting at Convention was, we’re just as enthusiastic about the next phase: the NTA Faith-based Tourism Network.”

Due to inclement weather, closure of the northbound lane on Baillou Hill Road South between Family Guardian and Ameryllius Avenue will now take place today February 2nd between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should follow the posted diversion signs.
