Halloween Trick or Treaters turn up in large numbers at Sabor for some spooky fun! - Nov 5, 2009 - 12:30:42 PM
Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas - As part of the Halloween holiday
weekend, many Trick or Treaters showed up in large numbers at Sabor
Restaurant and Bar located at Pelican Bay Resort to enjoy the ghoulish Halloween
bash. As an incentive to encourage many to come out and participate
in the spooky night of festivities 1st and 2nd
prizes were awarded to best overall costume
and the best look alike.
On the panel were four judges
Susan Clegg-Missick, Events Coordinator and Promoter; Robbin Whachell,
Editor, The Bahamas Weekly; Rico Smith, Stylist, La Belle Beauty
Salon; and Karen Clarke, Founder of Thayers.com who all had a tough time trying to select the
right winners amongst the wonderfully dressed enchanting witches, seductive vampires, mischievous
nurses, cunning pirates, glamorous superstars, rockers, punks, super
heroes, innocent angels, and many, many more...

Volundarson, otherwise known as, "Chef Worly" (in Bahamas) or "Chef
Volli" (in Iceland) has been living in
Grand Bahama for almost 10 years now and is the mastermind behind Sabor
Restaurant and Bar at the Pelican Bay Hotel. He has his own
cookbook called,
Delicious Iceland which received the Gourmand Cookbook
Award in Beijing, China and in 2008 it was chosen as one of
the top 100 cookbooks published in the world for the past twelve years, and Volundarson also had his own
cooking show for a season on the Icelandic TV 1 station called Skiarinn.
With his cooking show Volundarson wanted to share his Bahamian home and the island experience with his
people back in Iceland and it was just after hurricanes Frances and Jeanne,
in autumn of 2004 that he filmed the segments here in Grand Bahama, and
included his Bahamian staff, Chefs Emmanuel Smith, Elizabeth Grant and
Sigmund Hall, all of whom still work with him today at Sabor...

- Funky Fridays, a new weekly event to be held every Friday at Sabor
Restaurant and Bar got off to a great start on August 14th, as hundreds
came out to enjoy a soulful array of dance music to suit every taste
spun by DJ President.
Event coordinator Susan Clegg-Missick was pleased that so many gave such a favourable response and stayed right up until closing.
"We've
moved the DJ and the dance area closer to our bar to provide an
intimate and engaging dance atmosphere for our clients. It worked
fabulously!"

over the island of Grand Bahama, people were out celebrating dressed in
the colours of the Bahamian flag, aquamarine, yellow and black.
Sabor
Restaurant and Bar hosted another of their monthly parties, with
excellent views overlooking the Marina. Guests enjoyed the sounds of DJ
Mooj and DJ Say My Name whilst savouring delicious Bahamian delicacies.

Grand Bahama Island - The Ibiza Latino Night event at Sabor Restaurant and Bar at the Pelican Bay Hotel drew a good crowd over the course of the evening despite extremely poor weather on Friday, May 22nd.
Patrons and dance enthusiasts came out to be seen in what many on hand said felt was a "West Beach" or "New York" experience. Sabor offers an
upscale atmosphere without the up-tight attitude.
Everyone was dressed to impress in Caribbean colours and enjoyed top shelf drinks while listing to DJ Say My Name spin pulsating House

Local Icelandic chef featured on the Today Show in his homeland - Nov 19, 2008 - 9:25:07 PM

ICELAND - Past resident and favourite local chef to Grand Bahamians, Volundur Volundarson, a.k.a. 'Chef Worly' to many, has been home in his native Iceland for some time now working on his popular cooking show, "Chef Volli's Cooking Show", the launch of his cookbook, "Delicious Iceland" which features Icelandic seafood dishes and more. During this time away, the chef also became a new father with the birth of his son, Baldvin Snaer.
Just this week he was guest chef on location for the Today Show with America's best loved weatherman and NBC television personality, Al Roker. The show featuring Volundarson was aired November 18th and the chef gave his unique twist on some favorite of his favourite recipes: light beer-steamed mussels, fresh scallop ceviche and grilled monkfish. The segment was a part of the Today Show series called Ends of the Earth where Al Roker went to Iceland, Meridith Viera went to Sidney, Australia, Matt Lauer was in Belis and Ann Curry went to Kilimanjaro...
