Nassau, Bahamas - Minister of the Environment and Housing, Hon. Kenred Dorsett, visited Harold and Wilson Ponds this past weekend to take part in an Earth Day event hosted by the Bahamas National Trust (BNT).  To commemorate Earth Day the BNT invited Bahamians to volunteer in the removal of cattails and other invasive species from the ponds.  Cattails are plants which are beautiful to look at and have their beneficial traits but unless controlled can negatively impact the ecosystem with their invasive tendencies.

While there Minister Dorsett spoke to members of the press and drew attention to the Eco Tourism potential of wetlands such as Harold and Wilson Ponds when the removal of the invasive cattails and other species can be successfully removed.

The Minister was accompanied by the newly BNT President and Vice President, Mr. Lawrence Glinton and Janet Johnson respectively; BNT Managing Director, Eric Carey; Director of the Nature Conservancy, Eleanor Philips; Director of BEST Commission, Philip Weech and other members of the BNT.
