Nassau, Bahamas - It was a very happy day indeed for the Bahamas Humane Society when Dutch photographer Patricia Vazquez decided to donate all the profits of her Photographic Art shows held within the walls of gated community Lyford Cay, during this summer.

Patricia has been an enthusiastic resident of the Bahamas for well over twenty years, having spent quite a large amount of time on an island retreat in the Exumas.

“I love the Bahamas” she told us, “I love the beauty of my island home and I love taking photographs of it”, Patricia also loves animals, some of her photographs have captured the real spirit of animal life, the humorous, sad, funny and lovable sides of being an animal. Her photos include, ducks, rabbits, dogs, horses, donkeys, piglets, sheep, goats, chickens and chicks… “Animals are so smart, and lovable, I enjoy taking photographs of them and showing them in their best light”, this talented photographer told us. “It was a no-brainer to offer the Bahamas Humane Society the profits because I want to help them make this a better place for all the animals in this country”.

Kim Aranha, President of the Bahamas Humane Society told us how very grateful she is to Patricia Vazquez for her generosity. “If more people would step up and help out, we would be able to do so much more for the animal situation in this country. It costs us $50.00 to spay and neuter an animal, the more animals we spay and neuter the less strays we will have roaming around, but it takes donations, like this generous one from Patricia, to make this possible”.

Patricia Vazquez discovered, quite by chance, that she is a photographer “extraordinaire”.  All her photographs are taken right here in the Bahamas. “ I started taking pictures and was really amazed at the reaction I was getting from people when they saw the photos I had taken, then somebody offered to organize a private, by invitation only, show I accepted, and was overwhelmed at how many pieces I sold”. Patricia wants to publicly recognize the professionalism of the staff at Mr. Photo “thanks to RJ and Jacky from Mr.. Photo for printing all the photos so beautifully and being so generous and always with a smile, without Mr. Photo it would not have been the same...The next showing of Patricia’s work will be much more public as she has committed to be involved in the B-humane event at Fort Charlotte on February 5th, 2010.

“Patricia’s work is really special, she sees through the lens with her heart not her eyes, every image is a symbol of her love for the subject she has captured. This is not something you can learn, you are either born with that certain gift or you are not. Patricia is very gifted, and very generous.” Kim told us. “When she came down to the shelter to present us with the $11,000.00 cheque (so far, she is still selling, so who knows how much)! the animals and staff turned out to say thank you. This time Patricia was on the other side of the lens and president Kim Aranha took the photo…with Patricia’s camera!
