Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Humane Society held its annual Ball last weekend at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel.  It was a beautiful evening, and very well attended by supporters.  In fact it was sold out.  Ball chairman, Mrs Saskia d'Aguilar was very pleased in the success of their efforts.

Held under the distinguished patronage of his Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes and Lady Foulkes, and with the Deputy Prime Minister (acting PM at the time) the Hon Brent Symonette  and Mrs Symonette the B-Humane Award was presented to Mrs Brenda Franke for her tireless efforts over the past 40 years to improve the lives of the animals in The Bahamas.

Ms. Linda Sawall of Freeport, Grand Bahama also won the coveted award but has chosen to receive her honour in Freeport at a later date.

Mr Paul Clear, local businessman, was awarded a special plaque for his efforts on behalf of the Society as the longest serving member of the BHS Board.

Mrs. Candy Kelly of Super Value was also presented with a plaque in recognition of the extreme generosity and help that Super Value gives the Bahamas Humane Society.

Donna Kiriaze (BHS Accountant) and Dr. Dawn Gibbs (Chief Veterinarian) both received plaques commemorating their 10 years of service to the BHS.

The room decoration was by Michelle White and was very tastefully done in yellows and each guest received a small cuddly dog to take home as a reminder of a wonderful evening.

The raffle prizes were astounding with myriad prizes from businesses around the nation and topped out with multiple trips generously donated by American Airlines.

The Bahamas Humane Society is the only shelter in New Providence and depends solely on the generosity of the public sector to be able to keep their doors open and to continue doing their good works...

President of the BHS, Kim Aranha, would like the general public to know that at present the BHS is full of Puppies and adult dogs (magnificent cross breeds and  lovely Potcakes) looking for good homes and she urges everybody to please check out the beautiful animals available for adoption at the shelter before buying a pet...
