HOLIDAY CHEER- A young passenger couldn’t resist ringing the bell before catching his flight at the Salvation Army’s new kettle location at LPIA. Looking on is NAD’s Vice President of Finance and volunteer bell ringer, Chris Ryan.

NAD teams up with Salvation Army for the first time

Nassau, Bahamas – The Salvation Army kettle drive has a new location. The iconic red kettles and bell ringers have touched down at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA), bringing a familiar, cheerful sound that marks the start of the holiday season and a time of giving.

"We at the Nassau Airport Development Company thought there's no better way to assist the Salvation Army than to provide access to The Bahamas' gateway to the world. It opens the local organization up to a new and bigger market," explained NAD's President & CEO, Vernice Walkine.

"Due to its world-wide presence in 126 countries, travelers from around the globe will immediately recognize the Salvation Army's red kettles and bell ringing. It’s a great way for tourists to give back on their way out and for locals to give as they travel."

The airport's red kettle campaign kicked off on Friday, December 5. It wraps up on Thursday, December 18.

Every weekday from 10am to 2pm, the Red Kettle Drive good-natured volunteers will ring the bell and wait for generous travelers to fill the kettles with spare change and bills. The kettles will be staffed by Salvation Army officers with NAD volunteers assisting.

"Staff members were eager to volunteer to ring the bell on Fridays as a way of giving back to those less fortunate," said Walkine, who underscored that no detail went unnoticed in helping the Salvation Army to raise the most funds possible.

"We chose peak travel times and two great locations to maximize the campaign's exposure in the terminal," she said.

A kettle is stationed in the US Departures Check-In Hall in the area and another sits in the Domestic/International Departures Check-In Hall.

"We are always excited when corporate citizens seek to partner with us," said local Salvation Army head, Divisional Commander, Major Lester Ferguson.

"To bring such a high profile, strategic location on stream for the very first time is sure to have a positive impact on the amount of money we are able to raise for our programs this Christmas."
