Freeport, Bahamas - The Red Rose Ball Committee are gearing up to receive Kyle Hatcher, Economic Officer, representative from the Embassy of the United States to The Bahama be in attendance at TEEN PEP HIV/AIDS Intervention FREE workshop on January 11th, 2012 , 10:00am to 3:00pm Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel.
Through the generosity of the grant obtained for the United States Embassy, the Red Rose Ball Committee was able to successfully launch Teen PEP (Teen Prevention Education Programme).
After our first free workshop reputable members of the community have asked how they can take part in this much needed programme for teens. The Red Rose Ball Committee (RRBC) is coordinated and operated by a team of dedicated volunteers within the community of Grand Bahama; it is the support of these volunteers that make possible the successful coordination of Teen PEP.
The committee ever changing with the times is moving towards more than just a fund raising committee, but has now focus further to coordinate a youth branch of the organization TEEN PEP. Teen Pep commenced on the island during the weekend of September 22, 2011 and was indeed a success targeting a specific age of the school population providing them with the necessary tools to not only prevent them from becoming infected with HIV/AIDS but also educate teens and their peers about HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections and Abstinence. While the programme is not to encourage pre-marital sex the subject matter will be addressed to discourage the rising incidents of teen pregnancy and improve self-esteem among our teens.
The Committee was able to seek Professional assistance from a series of presenters such as Dr. Cynthia Archibald, Ph.D., RN Associate Professor Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Florida Atlantic University and Dr. Kim Jolly PhD, ARNP Florida Atlantic University Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, who traveled here to open the first session of the AIDS Intervention workshop.
The second workshop was held on Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at the Pelican Bay, Canal House where all of our workshops are being held. The presenters for the second workshop were Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity targeting more of our young men to be a part of the program. Eager to make this partnership a success the fraternity extended an invitation to members of Zeta Phi Beta they are a constitutionally bound sister organization of the fraternity. They together made this workshop a success.
We are proud to announce that our third session will be held on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 at 10:00am - 3:00pm during this timeMr. Kyle Hatcher; Economic Officer, Representative from The Embassy of the United States to The Bahama will visit our workshop to see our progress.
