Nassau, Bahamas - This Saturday, Grand Bahama residents can shop, sample healthy foods and possibly save their lives at the first ever Check Your Health fair at Solomon’s Queen’s Highway. For five hours, shoppers will have access to free glucose and blood pressure checks, flu shots and HIV rapid testing in one convenient location.

Representatives from various non-profit health groups will also be on hand to educate the public and raise awareness. During the event, the Cancer Society of The Bahamas will conduct a Pap smear drive, a local lupus group will share information and members of the Us 2 Prostate Group will bring awareness to their cause. There will also be a special session on living with diabetes.

Charlene Harding, event organizer and Brand Manager at Solomon’s, encourages members of the community to come out and take part in the screenings from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Saturday. “The purpose behind the Check Your Health fair is for us to give back to our customers and to allow them the opportunity to slow down and take care of themselves,” Harding explained. “We’re encouraging persons to come out on Saturday to learn about preventative measures and the importance of early detection and healthy living.”

Solomon’s is partnering with the Grand Bahama Public Hospitals Authority and the Grand Bahama Lions Club to stage the event. The food retailer will also team up with the Rand Memorial Blood Bank, offering incentives for those who give the gift of blood on Saturday. Donors will be entered to win a $100 gift card from Solomon’s.

Renea Bastian, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at parent company AML Foods Ltd, says Saturday’s health fair is a way to thank the Grand Bahama community and to encourage healthier lifestyles.  ‘Helping our customers succeed at better living is a core belief of our company. We want to show shoppers the importance of good health by providing avenues to educate, to engage and to encourage them to live better.”
