Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a statement by Opposition Leader, the Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis:

Bahamians everywhere and the world watched with great anticipation as the track and field events climaxed on Saturday at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.  Once again, The Bahamas proved a tremendous sports power by winning bronze in the men’s 400 meters relay.  On behalf of the Official Opposition, the Free National Movement, I take pride in congratulating Stephen Newbold, Alonzo Russell, Michael Matthieu, Steven Gardiner, and Chris Brown for their gallant world class performance.

Our Bahamian "Bronze Brothers" marked a fantastic mix of youth and experience to capture Olympic glory.  In what he has described as his final Olympic bid, decorated veteran Chris Brown, showcased with his teammates the heart of a champion.  Lap by lap, during the race, each of our boys carried the prayers, relentless spirit and the hopes and dreams of the Bahamian people.

The entire Team Bahamas is to be commended for representing our nation in magnificent form on the world stage. We look forward with joy and excitement to celebrate the return of our team.  May God continue to bless our beloved Bahamas.
