IAAF (BTC) World Relays Bahamas 2015 Just 30 Days Away

Nassau, Bahamas - Anticipation, excitement, confidence, a sense of going beyond expectations it’s hard to describe the sentiments associated with the important countdown: 30 days until the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) /BTC World Relays Bahamas 2015! To highlight this turning point, the event Local Organizing Committee (LOC) revealed its remaining sponsors.

Bahamasair Holding Limited; The Bahamas Electricity Company (BEC) and Nestle Milo have all returned as national suppliers and The Bahamas National Festival Commission (BNFC); Mediterranean Shipping Company Bahamas Limited (MSC) and Nassau Container Port - APD Limited, have also joined in at the national supplier level.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce that the LOC has concluded the remaining six national supplier contracts," LOC Executive Chairman Keith Parker said. “It is a great honor to welcome these remaining suppliers who will all make a significant contribution to the success of the country’s biggest sporting event.”

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Vice Chairman of the LOC, Mike Sands, said: “We're extremely proud to have the support of these suppliers - this is going to be a massive event, so it's only natural that corporate Bahamas would want to get involved. The IAAF/BTC World Relays is a huge deal for The Bahamas and we're pleased that these suppliers will help fuel another “Bahamazing” event."

Deputy General Manager of the Bahamasair Commercial Division, Van Diah, said: “Bahamasair, the national airline of the Bahamas, is again please to partner with the IAAF and the LOC on its second annual world relays. We have come full circle from 1973 in fulfilling the mandate that was given when we were established. This partnership is a confirmation of the airline's commitment to the people of the Bahamas and in particular the Bahamian athletes who will be participating in this event. More specifically, the airline will be responsible for transporting the Family Island Athletes to participate in the games. We are proud to be a part of this dynamic partnership.”

BEC's General Manager, Kevin Basden, said: “The Bahamas Electricity Corporation is proud to partner with the Local Organizing Committee for this second annual World Relays. The event is a wonderful opportunity to bring international attention to our country and its people. As one of the national suppliers for the relays, BEC is delighted to be a part of this venture and will do its part to ensure the event's success.”

BNFC CEO, Roscoe Dames, said: “The Bahamas National Festival Commission is privileged to be a proud supplier of the IAAF/BTC World Relays. This is an exciting global event that has become an important attraction for The Bahamas. These relays and the impact they have in uniting the country is exactly the kinds of events we want to get involved with and throw our full support behind.”

CEO and President of APD, Mike Maura Jr., said: “Just as IAAF strives through athletics to embrace the development of young people globally as part of their social responsibility in order to change the world for good, APD is committed to doing the same in our professional area. We are driven by a passion for excellence as a builder not just of maritime trade and the Bahamian economy, but also of people and community. Our race is to ensure the promotion of common values, training, a strong work ethic, collaboration in teams and striving for even higher goals. Sales Manager of MSC Limited, Louis Moss, said: “We are truly proud to sponsor this most significant event and to promote and showcase the outstanding talent of our young Bahamians to the world.”

Brand Manager, NESTLE - Lightbourn Trading Co. Ltd., Sophia Richardson, said:

Local sponsors for the IAAF/ BTC World Relays Bahamas are split into five categories, with title partner being the highest, followed by the public institution, national partners, national suppliers, and the national broadcaster.

The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) returns as the public institution, and the national Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (BCB) returns as the national broadcaster.

Making this announcement, LOC managing director, Lionel Haven, said: both the public institution and the national broadcaster helps the LOC to take the upcoming event to the world.

Ministry of Tourism Permanent Secretary, Harrison Thompson, said: “We are excited to partner with the IAAF/BTC World Relays Bahamas 2015. It is the elite track and field event of the year and an important deciding event on the path for athletes to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. As a country with a long, storied history of producing

famous track & field athletes, we are honored to be hosting athletes and avid fans alike for these upcoming fantastic feats of athleticism and are delighted to be officially involved. Working closely together with the Local Organizing Committee, we will ensure the 2015 IAAF/BTC World Relays will be an outstanding and memorable sporting event for Bahamians and visitors alike.”

BCB’s General Manager, Ms. Diana Swann, said: “We look forward to fulfilling our mandate at the national broadcaster for the IAAF/BTC World Relays, bringing the excitement of this event into Bahamian homes and businesses all over the archipelago, uniting Bahamians as our team goes for Gold, not just at home but throughout the world.”

These remaining sponsors join an already impressive list of partners and suppliers for the upcoming “Bahamazing” event.

Last week, the LOC announced, The Bahamas Telecommunication Company (BTC) as its title partner. Caribbean Bottling Company Limited through Coca-Cola & Atlantic Medical as national partners. Bahamas Waste and Commonwealth Brewery Limited using the Kalik Radler 0.00% brand and the National Sporting Authority (NSA) were all announced as national suppliers.

The IAAF/ BTC World Relays, Bahamas 2015 will take place at The Thomas. A Robinson National Stadium on May 2nd and May 3rd, 2015. More than 1,000 athletes and officials representing some 47 countries will take part in two days of competition.
