6th Annual Bernie Russell Pool Tournament Announced

FREEPORT, Bahamas –  On Friday, September 9th, 2016 representatives from the Ministry of Tourism’s Sports Department held a press conference at The Grand Lucayan Resort to announce the 6th Annual Bernie Russell Pool Tournament.

Tournament organizers, Kevin Miller and Remardo Russell, the son of the late Bernie Russell in whose honor the tournament is named, spoke to the growth of the tournament over the past six years. 

Russell told the press that seven years ago, co-founder and pool player, Kevin Miller approached him with the idea of carrying on his father’s legacy as a pool hall legend.

Assistant Manager of Sports Tourism Grand Bahama, Jay Phillipe added that “This is an opportunity for the Ministry to promote Grand Bahama with about 70 plus persons registered for the tournament.”

Organizers are anticipating participation from local Grand Bahamians, as well as contenders from New Providence, Abaco, Long Island, and the United States.

This year’s competition will be held at the Grand Lucayan Resort September 23rd-25th, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The tournament will include competition for singles, doubles, and teams.

This year’s sponsors include Executive Marine Management, Polymers, Sawyers Fresh Market, Harbor Breeze Villas Long Island, Paradise Cove, Westar Convenience Store, Reef Tours, Grand Lucayan Resort, and the Ministry Tourism.

The deadline to register for the singles competition is September 22nd, for persons competing as doubles, September 23 and for teams, September 24th.
