Nassau, Bahamas - On a daily basis, the staff at Melia Nassau Beach Hotel demonstrate their skills when greeting guests at the front desk, serving tropical drinks and local fare in the restaurants, maintaining the resort’s public spaces and managing entertainment activities at the beach and pool. But recently, over a three day period, their dexterity and prowess on the basketball court was on display during a departmental basketball tournament held at the Cable Beach Police Station court.

With six teams leaving it all on the court, tournament stats had the Housekeeping Closers (2-1) leading the way into the third day of competition followed by the Storeroom Ballers (2-0), Aqua Titans (1-0), Beach & Pool Beach Dogs (0-2), Beverage Finishers (0-1) and the Bahamar Jetsetters (0-1). Competition was stiff between the Ballers and Beach Dogs who came out on top with a two point lead. Top-scorer for the Ballers was Jermaine Swann with an impressive 16 points and Dave Thompson with the Beach Dogs with six points.

The Closers pummeled the Jetsetters in their match of 35 - 8 with Tamal Beneby and Don Rolle each with 16 points for the Closers. Jettsetters’ high-scorer was Greg Martin.

“We’re very pleased with the response from our staff members and their participation in the basketball tournament,” said Andrew Tilley, Melia Nassau Beach Hotel General Manager. “These games provide an opportunity for relationships to be strengthened beyond the work environment and for camaraderie to develop.”

The nail-biting championship game resulted in a two-way tie. The tie was then broken with a shootout between the Aqua Titans and Storeroom Ballers with the Titans triumphant; a fitting ending to a tournament dedicated to team building.
