PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -  The games are in the history books and Atlantis, Paradise Island is pleased to have been a part of such a fun and worthwhile event which could potentially have a tremendously positive impact on The Bahamas for the future, in more ways than one!

The Bahamas Basketball Federation’s (BBF) Summer of Thunder event held August 2nd  – 25th provided the opportunity for local basketball coaches and athletes to be exposed to the fast-paced, action-packed level of play seen at Atlantis’ Battle 4 Atlantis. Teams from U.S. Colleges, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico signed on for the chance to play in these NCAA Division I Men’s basketball games as teams from The Bahamas attempted to defend their home court advantage. Joining those Bahamian teams was the Atlantis team whose members were ready to ball and show what they could do on the court!

“The teams that our players were up against can be considered seasoned professionals who spend hours a day practicing and playing. The players on our Atlantis team work all day and have limited time to practice. Given this scenario, we could not be more proud of those individuals who stepped up, deep into their off-season, to participate in this great local event,” says Director of Employee Programmes at Atlantis A. Camille Fields, adding, “We are truly grateful to Coach Valentino Missick, Assistant Coach Manny Adderley and the whole team for taking on this challenge and representing us so well, and we are equally thrilled with the overwhelming level of support they were shown at each game by the rest of the Atlantis community. All in all, our colleagues demonstrated great team spirit and camaraderie and we applaud them all for their efforts, hard work, dedication and support.”

Hosted at the Sir Kendall G. L. Isaacs Gymnasium, the basketball scrimmages were part of what the BBF says is an aggressive agenda to offer needed exposure, while also allowing student athletes an opportunity to scout the visiting schools’ athletic programmes and promote the beauty and tranquility of The Bahamas as the choice for a vacation destination!
