Bahamian team from The Island School supports marathon swimmer NASSAU, Bahamas – She's done it! After departing from Eleuthera on Tuesday morning, 29 year old Australian swimmer Chloe McCardel has successfully completed a 78-mile swim from Eleuthera to Nassau, New Providence. She reached Nassau around 1am on Wednesday, October 22nd. According to her team this is the longest continuous marathon swim in history. The open-water solo took 42.5 hours. McCardel made the trek under Marathon Swimmers Federation rules, which meant she was not allowed to intentionally touch her support boat or hold on to anything. In her press release to announce her swim it was stated, "She again has an experienced support crew to guide her on this journey, including highly skilled specialists from across the world. Additionally, she is being supported by a local Bahamian team from The Island School. The school, based in Eleuthera, along with their team is an integral part of the logistics of the event." McCardel trained last year in the Bahamas before her Cuba Florida attempt. During that swim she had to give up her attempt after 11 hours and 14 miles due to painful jellyfish stings.
