NASSAU, The Bahamas – BAAA President Rosamunde Carey applauded all of the athletes of Team Bahamas, giving special honours to the luminaries, of the Rio 2016 Games for ensuring that their performance “will be forever etched in the history of athletics in The Bahamas.” She addressed the press at a September 2 Media Luncheon at the British Colonial Hilton.

In her statement she reiterated that The Bahamas will for the third time stage the IAAF World Relays – in April of 2017 and in 2019, and that a bid has been put in for 2021 and 2023.

She noted: “there are other issues or initiatives worth mentioning such as the $15,000 grant from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to advance a development programme called ARISE, the reconstruction of the Federation’s Webpage and Facebook, and equally significant the development of a plan to create more cohesion and collaboration among all stakeholders of the Federation. We have also just recently been engaged with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture along with other sporting organizations to present a comprehensive plan for the way forward to TOKYO 2020. This initiative is exciting to the Federation as it synchronizes with plans as we move from IWR 2017, CARIFTA 2018, IWR 2019 to TOKYO 2020.”
