The 9th edition of the worldwide competition is being hosted by the Bahamas Football Association, the official football federation in The Bahamas.

Soccer Fans from Around the World Enthusiastic about Visiting Nassau for 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tournament

Team Pugg claimed the U.S. Open at the 2016 North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) in Virginia Beach, Va., recently, with a dramatic sudden death penalty win over Florida Beach Soccer (FBS) FC, but The Bahamas needed no assist when it came time to claim its own victory at this year’s contest.

From videos streaming breathtaking images of crystal clear turquoise waters throughout the event’s 25-block venue to drawings for Dolphin Encounters, Pirates of Nassau and Atlantis vacation packages, representatives from the Bahamas Football Association and the Ministry of Tourism wasted no time gearing soccer fans up for next April’s 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Nassau.

“It was spectacular,” said Bahamas Football Association Vice President Jason McDowell. “People love The Bahamas, and everyone who stopped by said that they are coming to the World Cup in 2017.”

The international competition will mark the first time a Caribbean nation will host a senior FIFA tournament and include 16 teams from six confederations. Plans are currently in the works for soccer players to stay at Atlantis and travel to the BFA Beach Soccer and Futsal Facility by boat which would also make this the first World Cup where athletes arrive by water.

Although this ninth edition of the 10-day tournament will take place on New Providence, McDowell added the impact of the sporting event will be felt throughout the country.

“Beach soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and hundreds of fans will travel from all over just to see their favorite players compete,” McDowall said. “As host of the 2017 World Cup, we have a real opportunity here to show the world everything our country has to offer.”

Founded in 1967 and affiliated with FIFA since 1968, The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) is the official football federation in The Bahamas. Headquartered in Nassau, BFA is in charge of New Providence Football League's divisions 1 & 2 as well as the Grand Bahama Football League for both men and women.
