From:TheBahamasWeekly.com Sports The 19 semi-finalists in the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival CD Song Competition, including Grand Bahama’s Terrell Tynes-Wilson and Georgina Ward-Rigby, will light up the stage on Friday, April 17th to battle for one of the top 10 spots in a chance to win the $20,000 grand prize. Day two of the historic, electrifying weekend continues with a fun-filled Beach Olympics beginning with a workout session at 6:30 a.m. that is free of charge and open to the entire family. Director for Beach Olympics Jacquie Rolle explained that in addition to the fitness workout sessions, the power packed two-day event will also include game tournaments and a Kiddie Land. “We’re asking everyone to come out and support the free workout sessions from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. in preparation for the Beach Olympics, which begins at 9:00 a.m.,” Rolle said. Among the categories are the Best Decorated Bed, Relay Obstacle course race, Tug O' War, 3 on 3 Basketball, Volleyball, Dunk Tank, Corporate Chair Race and the Junkanoo Bed Race.
Olympic-style gold, silver and bronze medals
will be presented to winners and a floating trophy for the overall winner, as
well as for the Junkanoo Bed Race. “We’ve already contacted some of the fitness instructors on the island of Grand Bahama; they’re going to be coming out. They’re going to be bringing their people, but its open to the general public, especially those who will be participating in the beach Olympics. It’s going to be exciting and fun,” Rolle added. The Kiddie Land will feature a bouncing castle, giant slide, rock wall, face painting, balloon animals, popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, candy apple and appearances by the Youth Choir, cartoon characters, DJ Lil Scorpion, a Cultural Fashion Show featuring local kids and lots more. Trophies will also be presented to winners in the Pool, Domino, Backgammon, Darts basketball and volleyball tournaments that will take place beginning at 2:00 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Grand Bahama Cultural Carnival Company, across from Royal Bank of Canada, Regent Centre East. Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival Grand Bahama Spokesperson Yolanda Hanna pointed out that aside from the Music Masters Semi-finals, Bahamian All-Star Concert, Midnight Rush, scrumptious Bahamian food, arts, craft, Rake ‘n’ Scrape, and Junkanoo component of the kick off weekend, the Beach Olympics is one more feature Grand Bahama has up its sleeve to showcase its Bahamian hospitality.

Taino Beach come alive,” Hanna promised.
“Taino Beach is going to be
transformed into a cultural village. The Grand Bahama Cultural Carnival
Company has the Grand Pavilion there and so in addition to all of this
wonderful entertainment, there is Bahamian arts, Bahamian crafts,
Bahamian food, its all things Bahamian,” Hanna said. The two-day event is the kick off to the much anticipated signature cultural street festival in The Bahamas set for May 7-9 in New Providence which is intended to rebrand the country as a viable entertainment destination.
