Back from a highly successful 4 day training camp in Fort Lauderdale, FL just last week, Strikers Boxing Club’s 7 elite boxers and 2 coaches are off again, this time to Havana, Cuba for their second training camp of the year at the Academia Cubana de Boxeo (National Boxing Academy of Cuba) from Wednesday, Feb. 3rd for a week. “Our boxers had a chance to spar with amateur boxers at different boxing clubs in Fort Lauderdale last week.

There is very little opportunity for our boxers to spar here at home so it’s extremely important for us to take our boxers away in order to get the much needed exposure and experience” explains Strikers head coach Ronn Rodgers.  “Thanks to the continued support from Island Game and J.E.M Holdings Ltd, we are able to continue with our International Training Camp Program for our elite fighters.”

“Our focus for the boxers continue to be the development of their overall boxing skills to be successful in the professional field, which is their ultimate goal.  Through attending numerous Latin American and Caribbean tournaments last year, the Cuban training camp came highly recommended by several different coaches throughout the CAC nations so we are going to test this one out to see how we can benefit from the Cuban program” said coach Rodgers.

These training camps are being used as tune up and prep work for the upcoming Independence Cup in the Dominican Republic and Heroes Boxing Tournament in the Charleston, West Virginia from Feb. 18-23 where they can continue to be exposed to and seen by the top promoters of Boxing in the US.

Strikers Boxing Club is located at the Golden Gates shopping center and is looking for partners and sponsors to help them with the cost of travelling.  Interested parties are encouraged to contact their manager Arlene Rodgers at 357-5533.
