Bahamas Wins CAC All-Age Track and Field Championships

CURACAO - Success happens in small doses and once again The Bahamas has proven to be a Sports power house in the area of Track and Field. With a team of eight competitors, the country scored 28, 545 points to capture the Caribbean and Central American Age Groups Championships held in Curacao.

Doneisha Anderson and Blaize Darling led Team Bahamas with scores of 4151 points and 3167 respectively. Anderson finished second overall in the female 13-14 category while Darling was 3rd in the male 11-12 division.

The events which feature half distances to ensure quality development and pace in athletics saw boys and girls compete in two age division, 11-12 and 13-14. The 11-12 division boys competed in the 60 meter dash, 1000 meters, long jump, high jump and the baseball throw. The girl’s event featured the 60 meter dash, the 800 meters, long and high jump and baseball throw.

In the 13-14 categories the athletes competed in similar events with longer distances and performed admirably. Young Doneisha Anderson is proving the be the next bright hope and future for track and field dominating the field and the track and assisting to amass major points for The Bahamas as it went on to victory. In the mixed 4x100 relay which saw Anderson, Branson Rolle, Kristia Collie, Kairon Bain run a time of 47.27 seconds to beat Trinidad and Tobago and The British Virgin Islands who ran second and third respectively.

The Age Group Central American and Caribbean Championship meet which started in 1986 and seen many of the world’s top athletes emerge out of the region. The success is an indication the pipeline of track and field is stack and that the future is bright. Listed below are the individual and team points for The Bahamas. Below are the individual numbers from all the Bahamian athletes who participated.
