Day 1 of Davis Cup action kicked off today. Bahamian Philip Major met Shakir Elvin from Antigua. This one would be the 2nd time they match up in Davis Cup action. The first time was in 2018 where Phillip won in 2 sets 6-4, 6-3. This time it would be much improved with Philip allowing only one game in the 1st set.  In the second set he won 6-3 to win the match.

In Rubber #2 Baker Newman from The Bahamas faced the #1 from Antigua, Jody Mangiley. Baker like Philip saw his opponent before in 2018 where Baker won in two sets 7-5, 7-5. Baker would not be able to repeat that win and lost in two sets 1-6, 3-6.

It then moved onto doubles to decide the winner of the matchup. In doubles, Coach Marvin Rolle teamed up Baker and Philip for The Bahamas. This pairing was very successful as the team quieted Antigua in the 1st set 6-1.  In the second set Antigua would work harder but lost to the magic of Baker and Philip 6-3.  The Bahamas has an early win in their column!
