CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship hosts Bahamas were defeated in the quarter-finals on Friday as Guadeloupe moved into the final four with a 5-3 win.

Backed by a fervent home crowd, Bahamas battled back from deficits on three occasions to go into the final period at 3-3 only for Theo Gelas’ second and third goals to take the game away from the home nation, who will now look to secure fifth spot at the weekend.

The home crowd were subdued somewhat when Damien Granchi-Constant took advantage of a loose ball to finish from range over goalkeeper Ivan Rolle, although the Nassau locals were quickly back on their feet when Gary Joseph levelled.

Gelas nodded in his first from a throw-in as the scoreboard kept ticking over, with Cedric Julan then producing a wonderful double save, initially denying a penalty, to keep Guadeloupe in front.

Sebastien Hell nudged an effort against the post in the final chance of the first period although it would be the Bahamas who would draw blood next as Joseph registered a second.

Bahamas had kept Hell relatively quiet until the big forward headed in Guadeloupe’s third although Bahamas had an in-form striker of their own to call on and Lesly St. Fleur was the man to put Bahamas back on terms.

With the scores level, it made for an enthralling final period that saw Guadeloupe wrestle back the advantage through Gelas’ powerful drive, before the forward completed his hat-trick amid confusion at the back for Bahamas.

Goals: 0-1: Granchi-Constant, min. 8 (1); 1-1: Joseph, min. 7 (1); 1-2: Gelas, min. 6 (1); 2-2: Joseph, min. 11 (2); 2-3: Hell, min. 8 (2); 3-3: St. Fleur, min. 4 (2); 3-4: Gelas, min. 5 (3); 3-5: Gelas, min. 3 (3)
