The Bahamas has performed tremendously at
The International Lawn Tennis Clubs or "
IC’s
Junior Challenge tournament which is being held in Washington DC. The
IC 16-and-under Junior Challenge began in 2005 and has been sponsored by
Compass Group since its inception. The competition consists of two
girls and two boys with an adult captain. All juniors play both a
singles and doubles match against other country teams with all matches
counting towards one overall team result.
Today
The Bahamas won their opening match against Mexico by 4 matches to 3.
In the girls singles match,
River Hart played the number one player from Mexico and won and
Iesha Shepherd played well but lost her match to the number two player. On the other hand, in the boys singles
O'Neal Mortimer
played well but lost to the number one and Jack Kelly won against the
number two player. At this point the results were tied 1-1.
The team then split the girls and boys doubles with Mexico and thus
they had to play a 10 point Mixed Doubles to determine the winner. The
team of River Hart and Jack Kelly got a great start and was up 9-5.
However, Mexico came back to tie up the match 9 all. The Bahamas Team
fought through and was successful in the Mixed Doubles and thus garnered
the overall win over Mexico.
The USA was also successful over Bermuda today. The Bahamas will
play both Bermuda and The USA this weekend for The North American place
in the World Wide Finals which will take place in Monte Carlo next
September. We are excited about the positive results so far and expect
great things from our stellar four person team under the direction of
Captain Neil Mactaggart.
