The Bahamas returned home from the Junior Pan American track and Field Championships with two medals.

Jamal Wilson won a gold in the boy's high jump and Bianca Stuart won a silver medal in the women's long jump.

Grand Bahama played a big role in the 12-member team's participation in the Games, which was held in Brazil.

Head coach for the team was Wayne Smith of Grand Bahama, and Assistant coach was Fredrick Bastian, also of Grand Bahama.

The entire 4 x 400m team was made up of all Grand Bahama athletes, namely Demetrius Pinder, Juan Lewis, Latoy Williams and Jerome Mitchell.

"There were two heats in the 4 x 400m and we ran in the second heat, and finished in a time of 3:10, which I thought was pretty good for four kids coming off a tough year," said Coach Wayne Smith.

"Had we been in the heat with the United States, I think we would have ran harder and finished with a better time."

Juan Lewis and Demetrius Pinder also ran in the individual 400m Open race. The top eight went to the semi-finals. Demetrius finished ninth and Juan finished in 10th place.
