FLORIDA - Usually when you hear radio talk show, you may envision old, gray haired men talking about a variety of topics from politics to global warming. When you hear sports talk radio, you may envision the same old gray haired men, but this time their topics range from the 1980 Olympics to the latest in golf news. Well there’s one station and two new host that are changing the face of sports talk radio in the South Florida market.

Jeff Fox and EW Freeman are the Sports Brothers, and they are bringing a different sound to the airwaves. Their sound is fresh, hip and distinctively different from other hosts you may have heard. You see, as the first black host team on 790 the Ticket, they realized that there had been a void in the South Florida sports radio world when it came to people who not only could talk about the athletes, but maybe could relate to them in a certain way.

So when the two were brought together to host a weekend show on the now defunct WTPS, the goal wasn’t to just be part time host.

“The station also aired the 2 Live Stews from Atlanta, but it was recorded and it wasn’t local. We had hopes of doing well on our show and hopefully being moved to a weekday full time slot, but the station was sold within weeks of us starting and we had to start all over”, says EW.

The Brothers then took their show to 790 the Ticket, and after some ups and downs initially, the rest as they say, is history.

Both EW and Jeff are South Florida sports fans. Ed went to high school in Carol City. While in high school he rooted for the Canes, worked at then Joe Robbie Stadium and cheered on the Dolphins. While at college at FAMU, he excelled in the Marching 100, and it was at there that he stumbled upon the school’s radio station and became involved, and it has blossomed to what has been almost a decade in the radio industry. You may know him from his music radio and DJ name Ed the World Famous.

Jeff is a die-hard Laker and Raider fan, but he supports the Canes, Marlins, Heat and Dolphins just the same. Jeff Fox honed his radio skills as a host in the Bahamas on ZNS 3 ( Jeff Williams ZNS-3 Freeport) . After moving to Miami, he has also held it down on radio and in the club circuit, going by the name DJ Jeff Fox “In the Box”!

“We wanted to bring something different to the SoFla sports radio fan, and I know we are doing it. We not only involve great topics and great guest, but music, news, infotainment. It’s what we do”, says Jeff.

These guys are bringing something special to the airwaves. Make sure and check them out.

The Sports Brothers can be heard Monday thru Friday from 1p-3p. You can follow them on twitter.com/thesportsbros, as well as on Facebook.
