After training and competing in Mexico, Israel, France and Bulgaria in February, Judo national champion Cynthia Rahming competed at the 2019 Peru Continental Open. She earned a fifth place finish defeating Kiara Arango of Peru along the way before losing in a controversial match to Shadi Ebrahimi in the medal rounds.

"The journey has been tough," said Cynthia. "It has taken me years to win at this level but I have not given up! I intend to win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and I am grateful to God, my family, coaches and supporters who continue to train me and support me."

This is Cynthia's third 5th place finish at Pan American tournaments. Earning her enough points that if the Olympics were held today she would qualify through the Continental Quota. However, she will have to continue to win to stay on that prestigious list.

Cynthia received a bye in the first round then lost to Marica Perisic from Serbia. Perisic was the eventual winner of the tournament and recently came 5th in the Junior World Championships in Nassau. Cynthia was coached at the tournament by Omri Kelly and trains under Bahamas Head Coach Oneysi Portorreal Pons Judo 5th dan at the National Training Center at Holy Family Parish Activity Center.
