Athletes celebrate Bahamas Independence in Canada at the Pan Am Games

Although the Pan Am Games drew elite athletes to Toronto on July 10, they were able to celebrate Bahamian Independence with the help of a fellow Bahamian who now resides in Canada.

Chef Antwann Hutchinson ensured that the team marked the occasion by presenting athletes and officials with a cake he baked for them. Chef Hutchinson and his colleagues, who prepare meals for all athletes in the Pan Am Games Village in Toronto, presented the cake to Bahamas Olympic Committee President Wellington Miller and the delegation he leads in Toronto.

“I did it because I know my country was coming to me and this is a special event,” Chef Hutchinson told a Bahamas team official. “I wanted to bring something from home to you guys and I knew this would be appreciated.”

BOC President Miller said Chef Hutchinson’s pride in his country inspired the Bahamian athletes. He said the athletes would always remember how special he and his colleagues made them feel.

 “The chef is not an athletes, but for sure he is a gold medal performer,” Mr. Miller said.

The culinary team of Sodexo, which is contracted to prepare food for athletes at the Pan Am Games Village in Toronto, present an Independence cake to members of the BTC Bahamas Pan Am Games team.
