Nassau, Bahamas - High school sports fans who were unable to attend the first ever Bahamas High School National Basketball Championships in Grand Bahama over the weekend got the opportunity to catch the action in the comfort of their homes thanks to live coverage provided by Cable Bahamas. The company served as lead media sponsor for the basketball
tournament, delivering coverage of five games over three nights, all
hosted by Cable 12 Sports Correspondent Marcellus Hall.
The tournament, held at the St. George's High and Sir Jack
Hayward High School gymnasiums, featured 28 girls and boys' high school
basketball teams from Cat Island, San Salvador, Abaco, Andros, New
Providence and Grand Bahama. The teams competed in a series of matchups
between Thursday, March 10 and Monday, March 14 with championship games
for the girls' division and Family Island boys' teams held
on Sunday. The tournament closed
on Monday with the championship game for the Grand Bahama and New Providence boys' division.
Through its long-standing partnership with the Ministries of
Education and Youth and Sports, Cable Bahamas has served as the trusted
broadcast sponsor for dozens of high school sporting events.
"It signifies our commitment to supporting the nation's
youth," Ms Coakley said. "We see it as part of our corporate social
responsibility to utilise our talent, network and resources to expose
all things positive regarding the young people of The Bahamas and, in so
doing, make a contribution to our community at large."
Tournament Co-Coordinator Norris Bain said Cable 12's
coverage of the event allowed residents across The Bahamas to enjoy the
games. Mr Bain added that the coverage will be especially valuable in
future years as the tournament moves to different islands.
"The coverage is very important for folks in the family
islands, those parents who can't afford to travel for the games," Mr
Bain said. "They can sit in the comfort of their home and see their
children on television. It's great."
