The technical aspects of gymnastics are also taught to guarantee the gymnasts’ safety. At an earlier Gymnastics Federation of the Bahamas clinic, coaches in training are taught theory and movement in a classroom setting.

The Gymnastics Federation of the Bahamas (GFB) is hosting a special coach’s teaching clinic to be held in Nassau from April 22nd through April 24thsponsored by the Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) and will feature five sessions facilitated by two well known international gymnastics educators: Rick McCharles of Canada and Andres Llanos Gerardino from Mexico.

This clinic entitled “Age Group Camp” will demonstrate the basics of men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics taught in a fun and friendly environment. It is open to the public and is appropriate for any student, coach or teacher in the gymnastics/ cheer/ dance/ sporting community (must be over the age of 16). No prior experience is necessary.

Both the practical and theory sessions will be held in the Nassau gymNastics Club facility in Oakes Field. The visiting instructors will follow the FIG course curriculum as they share their knowledge and expertise. The sessions will run from 9:00am – noon and 1:00pm – 4:00 on April 22 and 23. The final session on April 24thstart at 8:00am and end at 11:00am.

GFB President Barbara Thompson sees this as a great opportunity for both our local coaches and gymnasts. She states “By enhancing our coaching abilities, the students will improve their skill sets and will excel. It also offers a chance for new comers to get involved in the sport with this basic training.

“With an expanded pool of qualified coaches available for our young athletes, new groups and clubs could be started up in local schools and community centres. This is an important goal for the GFB”.

Space is limited. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Please reply via email to gymfedbah@coralwave.com or call 356-7722 or 324-7060 to register or for more information on this Federation of International Gymnastics clinic.
