Critical 3rd inning costs UB Mingoes game against Lady Warriors

Nassau –  The University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s softball team dropped to 2-3 after a loss at the hands of the Lady Warriors 11-1 in NPSA action Tuesday night at The Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

Brendia Ferguson picked up the win for the Warriors and Charity Rolle picked up the loss for the Mingoes.

The Warriors ended the game in four innings.

Sophia Cartwright picked up the only hit for the Mingoes going 1-2 with a run, a triple and a stolen base.

Melinda Bastian went 3-3 with 2 runs, a home run and 2 RBI’s for the Lady Warriors. Nadia Thompson went 2-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI as well.

Mingoes head coach Shane Albury said the loss for the Mingoes came down to defense. “I knew that coming into the game it would be a rough one having three or four starters out of the game due to injuries,” he said.  “However some of the errors that were made I didn’t expect those to happen but that’s a part of the game.  A few errors blew it open in the third inning for them and they just took control at that point.”

The Mingoes play The Brackets 7pm Saturday June 22th at The Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
