According to tournament Director and Vice Chairman of the GB Sport Promotional Organization, Ambrose Gouthro, the tournament was created to recognize St. Georges’ commitment to the growth of Grand Bahama.

It was also used as an outlet to raise funds for young people on the island through the Golf Federation and the Michael Thompson Sports segment.

The event featured 14 teams from New Providence, Grand Bahama, and The United States, as well as celebrity guest, Pauline Thompson Davis, Golden Girl and Olympic gold medalist.

Nuvolari Chootisingh, Manager of Sports Tourism, Grand Bahama, said that “It's a good step forward in getting golf tournaments back on Grand Bahama Island. It’s a major part of our product that we’ve been missing very much since the closure of many of the golf courses on the island”.

In the future, local organizers hope to include the wider community of Grand Bahama and facilitate a major event to attract golf enthusiasts to Grand Bahama Island.

After a successful inaugural event, the golf tournament concluded on Sunday, September 25th with a seal of approval from all sponsors and those in attendance. As a major supporter of this sporting event, the Ministry of Tourism anticipates next year’s tournament to be executed at a world class level with a campaign that reaches the overseas market.
