The Free National Movement wishes to congratulate the newly elected team of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) who have been handed the mandate to manage the affairs of the Association and lead the thrust to further develop athletics in the Bahamas. This newly elected team of officers represents a diverse cross-section of talented Bahamians in various fields. In addition, it boasts some of our favorite former national and international athletes, coaches and sports personalities.

We are confident that this new BAAA’s administration will build upon past successes while breaking new ground in addressing age-old challenges that have long remained unresolved. Undoubtedly, your strategic plan includes ensuring that in all respects best international practices are utilized so that we may improve our influence and competitiveness across a wide range of sporting disciplines.

The Free National Movement is committed to working closely with the Association while in Opposition and upon returning as the Government of The Bahamas by partnering with you to fulfill your mandate.

Moving forward, our Party is committed to the following:

1) Strengthening and expanding youth clubs in all disciplines in order to have a powerful feeder system to populate our national leagues, the collegiate ranks and the overseas professional circuit.

2) Constructing new facilities and renovating existing facilities so that Bahamians nationwide would have access to recreational spaces and competition standard facilities

3) Developing relationships, facilities and protocols that would enable The Bahamas to host local, regional and international sporting teams at the collegiate, professional and non-professional levels for practice sessions, tournaments and competitive league play.

4) Providing opportunities for Bahamian coaches to gain international certification in their respective discipline in order to prepare Bahamian athletes for regional and international competition and to share their expertise internationally.

5) Encouraging and supporting national health and fitness programs designed to engender healthy lifestyles for Bahamians of all ages and fitness levels.

6) Improving upon the elite athletes’ incentives program to facilitate their success in their respective sport.

7) Utilizing sporting activities as a national development tool to engage young Bahamians who might otherwise be engaged in negative activities. We would further utilize these activities as a mechanism to teach them important values and ethics that are transferrable to other areas and aspects of their lives.

The Free National Movement has a long record of making significant improvements in the sporting arena. We are in the process of releasing the first draft of our strategic plan for sports development in the Bahamas.
