Ferguson-McKenzie cops sprint double, Brown takes 400m - Bahamas Trials

NASSAU, Bahamas – The experienced Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie and Chris Brown highlighted Saturday’s final day of the Bahamas two-day National Track and Field Championships.

Ferguson-McKenzie sealed the women’s sprint double with a comfortable half-lap win, while Brown won his specialized event, the men’s 400m.

After winning the 100m days on the opening day, Ferguson-McKenzie returned to take women’s 200m in 22.83.

World Junior champion over the distance, Shenique Ferguson, finished second in 23.48, while Jernise Saunders was third in 24.45.

Karlton Rolle won the men’s 200m with a time of 21.20, just getting home ahead of Adrian Griffiths, who was second in 21.27.

Meanwhile, Brown, who helped Bahamas to silver in the men’s 4×400m at the Beijing Olympics, won the men’s 400m in 45.21 seconds.

The four-time World Championships relay medals beat NAIA champion Ramon Miller, the second place finisher in 45.35, while former NCAA champion Andretti Bain took third in 46.02.

Christine Amertil won the women’s one lap event in 51.96. Shakeitha Henfield was second in 54.07.

Trevor Barry cleared 2.23m to win the men’s high jump. Raymond Higgs was second with 2.19m. World champion Donald Thomas was third with 2.17m.

Olympic medallist Leevan Sands leaped 17.14m to win the men’s triple jump.
