Grand Bahama Island - The Grand Bahama Girls Soccer Developmental League got underway on Saturday, September 26th with over 100 girls registering by the first day!

Registration is still taking place and will continue on Saturday, October 3rd at the Freeport Rugby Football Club starting at 2pm.

The first day the girls participated in games where they were assessed by the coaches. In this way by week three or four the organizers can place together teams that have as close as an equal skill level as possible.  League games will then commence and the program will run until January 16th, 2010, each Saturday from 2 - 4pm.

Girls learn skill development, rules of play, sportsmanship, and mostly they have lots of FUN in a supportive environment!  Many of the girls from this program go on to an older league, and some even go on to realize college scholarships.

Founded by Donnie and Mary Knowles, and supported by many dedicated senior and junior soccer coaches. The League also boasts strong parent involvement with parents assisting with coaching in the younger Curly Tail Division (ages 6 – 9), which encourages family involvement and child/parent bonding. The League takes girls at all skill levels from ages 5 to 16 years of age. Many of the junior coaches, who volunteer were once players in the league themselves.

"We are so pleased to see so many girls out on the first day this year, and it is nice to see all our returning players and coaches! We look forward to a great season, and wish to thank our many sponsors, Caribbean Electric, Lanelle Phillips real estate, JS Johnson Insurance, Barefoot Marketing, Freeport Oil, Sean B Callendars & Co., Kross Town Convenience Store, Municipal Motors, Ocean Motion Water Sports, Adnil Marine, and Gators Car Rental," said Donnie Knowles.

Soccer Mini-Stars group for 5 yr olds for Kindergarten and Grade 1. Fifteen is the maximum number so register your child early. This group runs from 2:00 - 3:30pm because of the short attention span of the age group. Parents are welcome to bring their sneakers and join in the fun with this age group.
