On January 26, 2014 Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources & Local Government, V. Alfred Gray officially declared Regatta Season open in The Bahamas during a church service in Nassau, just days after he'd presented the Grand Bahama Regatta with funds to assist in settling a debt of over $20,000. These funds were presented to the boat owners.

During a press conference held in Freeport on January 29th,  the Grand Bahama Regatta Committee advised the media on their latest developments. 2014 is the 19th year of the regatta and moving forward the event will now be called the Grand Bahama Regatta & Heritage Festival. This year's event will take place from July 18 – 19, 2014 on Taino Beach, and will be honouring Mr. Harold McPhee, immediate past chairman.

"We the Grand Bahama Regatta Committee are proud to inform the public that we have begun our planning for 2014. With an understanding that we are committed to settling 2012 debt," said Chervita Campbell, chairman of the committee.

"On Friday, January 24, 2014 we were able to make presentations to boat owners in New Providence, and now today, January 29, 2014 we are proud to make presentation to Mr. Colebrooke, on behalf of Port Lucaya Marina and Mr. Deleveaux. We appreciate your patience, tolerance, understanding and support for awaiting this day," continued Campbell.

The Grand Bahama Regatta Committee also announced that the heritage festival component will be led by Ms. Pleasant Bridgewater, who led the Marco City Heritage festival years ago as a member of parliament.
There are plans to implement a management board for the overall event, but they seek to host A, B, and C Class Sloop, and Jr. Sailing races.

"As we continue to develop our island cultural event we trust that our relationship will continue to flourish. Grand Bahama we listened to all voices that expressed the way forward for our island cultural event. However, we continue to seek corporate sponsors, self-service assistance as we re-ignite the magic city," said Campbell.

"We'll be contacting local entertainers. We'll be contacting persons who are involved in culture, Junkanoo, fireworks, straw works ... conch cracking, coconut barking, all these other things, the ring play, all these things will be a part of the event," said Bridgewater.

Businesses or persons interested in sponsoring or becoming involved can reach the committee at grandbahamaregatta@yahoo.com or 242 225 1106
