Freeport, Bahamas - Grand Bahama Sailing Club will once again be traveling for the 2012
Boomerang regatta, hosted by Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club. This Florida regatta
is hugely popular with Junior sailors, and was one of the first
regattas our junior racing team attended in 2011.
Now in 2012 with a year of training on our resume, we will be returning
to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to make a more demanding impression.
With coordination from the Lauderdale Yacht Club, GBSC has secured 4 Optimists and 4 Laser Radials.
The sailors representing GBSC for the 2012 year will be:
Laser Radials:
Nicholas Rolle
Trevor Goodrum
Eric Nabb
Alexander Thompson
Optimist Blue Fleet (Age 11-12)
Austin Feldman
Optimist Red Fleet (Age 13-15)
Matthew Farquharson
Optimist Green Fleet (new to racing)
Britni Thompson
Dylan Thompson (GBSC's youngest sailor, who JUST turned 7!)
Coach
David
Valentine is
particularly excited to return to this very competitive venue after one
year because "It allows for our sailors to track their progress.
Results are still published online from the 2011 regatta, so there is a
standard to beat after a year of solid training".
2011 results from the competition can be found at: http://www.regattanetwork.com/

The Laser sailing division will be particularly interesting to watch.
Nicholas Rolle performed the best out of the radial laser division last
year, and we are looking for a big improvement in the 2012 results. Eric
Nabb, who qualified to represent the Bahamas in the 2012 ISAF Worlds
(to be hosted in Ireland), will be using this regatta as a practice to
tone his sailing against a very competitive fleet.
Trevor Goodrum represented the Bahamas by winning 1st place in the 2011
Bahamas Jr. Laser Nationals in the 4.7 division. This will be Trevor's
first international Laser Radial regatta.
Austin Feldman sailed the Optimist Green fleet in 2011 and has since
advanced to the Optimist Blue fleet, which is much more competitive.
With such competition in the Bahamian Laser Class, this will be an
exciting regatta to see who comes out on top. Racing will take place on
Jan 21-22nd, Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.
