Freeport, Bahamas - Grand Bahama’s legendary Sir Jack Hayward Soccer Camp is just three weeks away – and the clock is ticking for those who want to sign up for this year’s limited entry. The message is simple: sign up now or be disappointed.
The lucky 100 who make the cut will enjoy the help of the best team of professional coaches the camp organisers have ever put together. Three have already been featured in this series and the fourth, Chris Clements, is fully up to the other’s very high standards.
Chris is not only head ladies’ team soccer coach at Hastings College, Nebraska, USA, but also the college’s assistant athletics director. The college’s women’s team has been described as “a national soccer powerhouse” – a reputation he has reinforced. For six seasons before joining Hastings, Chris served as the head coach for the Men's and Women's Soccer teams at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, setting records and leading them to national competition.
His impeccable credentials in women’s soccer nicely compliment those of fellow US college coach Chris Kranjc whose expertise is in the men’s game. The two of them will be joined from the UK by previous camp successes Abbie Sadler and Rob Pringle. The latter two are specialists in coaching younger kids though both also work with teenagers in the youth academies of English Premier League clubs.
This unprecedented group of coaches in the camp’s 14-year history will be on show at the Freeport Rugby and Football Club ground from June 19 to June 23. Despite the quality of what is on offer, camp organisers have recognized that times are tough and slashed the price from $175 to $100 making it by far the best value sporting summer camp on the island.
“We are really proud we have been able to do this and genuinely think it is the best deal around. The combined knowledge and expertise of the coaches – plus the college contacts they have – offers huge benefits to all kids, but especially those who might want a college scholarship at the end of high school,” said FRFC president Rob Speller.
Parents can get registration forms and sign up their kids at Town and Country, Yellow Pine Street; Barefoot Marketing, West Atlantic Drive; or from the club at East Settlers Way (evenings and weekends).
