"Extreme Conditions lead to Extreme Challenges"
Freeport, Bahamas - On Friday, November 4th, 2016, Iram Lewis, President of the Grand Bahama Athletic Amateur Association, along with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and other supporting partners, met at Pirates Cove to discuss the status of the Grand Bahama X-treme 13.2 Intracoastal Challenge post Hurricane Matthew.
Wishing to capitalize on the extreme conditions created in the aftermath of the storm, coordinators of the G.B. X-treme 13.2 Intracoastal Challenge announced that the first half marathon of its kind will continue as scheduled on December 3rd, 2016, at 7:00 a.m.
The early morning start will be untimed, and will be dedicated to bring relief to the misfortunes associated with the hurricane.
The event will not only highlight the beautiful scenery of Grand Bahama Island, but also the redevelopment and restoration of the infrastructure and landscape.

Lewis said that the race is a "Test of will, and a test of strength, and we believe that our athletes are up to the task. We can assure that this event will be one like no other".
Coordinators of the event are soliciting the participation of all clubs, athletes, and corporations to join in the challenge.
In fact, athletes from as far as Africa have been inquiring about participating in such a monumental event.
Major partners, including the Ministry of Tourism, who have assisted in making this event a success, seek to create a worthy cause which will aid in hurricane relief.
Subsequently, part of the proceeds will facilitate monetary donations to aid in the process of restoration.
Noris Bain, Second V.P. of the Grand Bahama Athletic Amateur Association, said that he "Feels like this will be an outstanding event for the island of Grand Bahama. It will be a great relief for our people to be able to come out and not think about what we went through over the past monthâ.

Mrs. Roseman Carey, President of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA), will also be making a personal donation to the restoration efforts in support of the inaugural event and her love for Grand Bahama Island.
Jay Phillipe, Assistant Manager, Sports Tourism, Grand Bahama, added, "The Ministry of Tourism thoroughly supports this event; we think it's going to be a good opportunity to promote the island of Grand Bahama, which is our objective".
For those interested, registration for the G.B. X-treme 13.2 Intracoastal Challenge is ongoing.
Register online at iamathlete.com or at the Copy Unlimited, Seahorse Plaza Suite #10; Insurance Management (Freeport & Nassau), and in Nassau the Prescription Parlour Pharmacy, and the BAAA office.
Student athletes selected to compete for their respective schools will receive a monetary donation which will assist in relief.
The top three athletes to win the single male division as well as the single female division will each secure a prize of $1,500.00 (first place winners), $1,000 (second place winners), and $750.00 (third place winners).
The entry fee for students is $5.00 (per person); $25.00, for the open division competitors; $20.00 for school teams made up of four competitors, and $100.00 for corporate teams who wish to enter.
