The Greater Heights Rockets Boys and Girls 17U basketball teams are off to Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, July 7th to attend the Bigfoot Hoops Orlando Summer Classic in Orlando, Florida. They return on Sunday, July 12th.
This event will provide players from all across the United States and our Bahamian teams the opportunity to participate in a first-class event. There will be global media coverage, 50 plus coaches from Division 1,2 & 3 colleges and universities and an array of scouting services and over 100 teams and coaches competing. This is the first NCAA live weekend of the summer recruiting period. Our kids will see the best quality of opponents they would have faced up to this point in their lives.
This premiere basketball tournament can boast of producing/ showcasing current NBA stars such as Derrick Rose, Damian Lillard, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Kawai Leonard, Zach Levine, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and the Bahamas’ very own Clay Thompson (son of Michael “Sweet Bells” Thompson and NBA Champion of the Golden State Warriors) amongst many others.
During their 5 day stay the teams are scheduled to visit the campuses of the University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida. We are expecting to have a total of 16 boys and 8 girls traveling who have been identified for possessing great academic and athletic proficiency and most importantly leadership skills. These students have been working hard and practicing daily for the past few months in order to prepare themselves for this elite tournament. The teams consist of students from various schools on the island such as St. Paul’s Methodist College, Bishop Michael Eldon High School, and Tabernacle Baptist School. Coach Patrick Duncombe, Robert Lewis and Mark Wilson have worked endlessly to develop and specifically prepare these students for this great opportunity.
