: As many are aware, fan support is very important to an athlete particularly when in competition. Imagine how much it would motivate an athlete to see everyone cheering them on; imagine how it would motivate an athlete to look into the crowd and see one of those persons cheering you on is the Minister of Housing and National Insurance...

That was the delightful experience of Team Bahamas in St. Kitts!Enjoying his first experience travelling with a CARIFTA team, Minister Shane Gibson took the time to share a few congratulatory words with the athletes to let them know they are appreciated particularly for their hard work and endurance to help them get to where they are today. Minister Gibson also relayed congratulatory remarks to the athletes from The Prime Minister and also Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture.

“They are very proud of the way they are performing here at CARIFTA. For those of us who have been observing Team Bahamas performances thus far, it is clear from the exemplary performances, their hard work and dedication has paid off."

“When I look at the amount of talent in The Bahamas and where they came from over the years and how we represented the region in track and field, it is very encouraging and very refreshing,” expressed the Minister.

Minister Gibson said he was very encouraged with the manner the athletes carried themselves on and off the field; he was also encouraged with the athletes discipline and determination to the sport. “I look at how focused and determined they are and how they concentrate on doing their best ...and it says a lot.”

Minister Gibson was not only proud of the athletes, but also proud of the organizers mainly the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Danny Johnson and also the president of The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA), Mr. Mike Sands.

“I want them to keep doing what they are doing and to know that they also have my support. To Mike Sands and the Minister, I say congratulations and keep doing what you are doing.”
