The ITF Goombay Splash Tournament is underway
at the National Tennis Centre in Nassau, Bahamas. The
qualifying rounds started November 21 for two days. The Main Draw begins
Monday, November 23 and ends
Saturday, November 28.
The tournament is an International Tennis Federation sanctioned
tournament that showcases top juniors from around the world. The
tournament is open to juniors 18and under players and under COTECC,
those players 14 and under.
This year, there is a notable contingency participating
from the Bahamas, many of them making the Main Draw. The Bahamas No. 1
and No. 2 players in the Girls' 18UIsabel Donaldson and Iesha
Shepherd respectively have made the Main Draw.We also have the
following stellar players auto
matically
making the Main Draw: Sierra Donaldson, Afrika Smith, Lauryn Daxon,
Sydni Kerr and Freeport natives Shay'Tonya Missick, Donesha Gibson,
Abigail Simms and Hannah-Joy Simms . On the boys side we have our stellar players
who have made the Main Draw: Joshua Turnquest, John Kellyand Oneal
Mortimer. Making their first appearance into an 18 and underITF
tournament are the Bahamas No. 1players in the Girls' and Boys' 16U
Sydney Clarke and Donte Armbrister respectively and Elana Mackey,
13,the No. 1 in the Bahamas Girls' 14U. Brandon Taylor is another top
junior participating in the 18Uevent. Some of ourtop juniors participating in the 14 and under event are No. 1 and No. 2 in the Bahamas Girls' 14U Emma Weech and Perjae Major, respectively.Other top players
from the Bahamas expected to participate in the 14 and under category
are: Gabrielle Simms (Freeport) Kristin Major, Calum Moodie and Aaron
Rolle.
Other players include Meena Gupta(Bahamas), Grant Moran,
Roberts Issacs and Alan Vogel(Switzerland) . Also participating in the
event is Arnav Umesh(India) , Mandisa Walle(Curacao) and Nagid
Walle(Curacao) who participate in local tournaments during the year in
The Bahamas.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association looks forward to a
successful tournament and invites tennis enthusiasts and the wider
public to come out and support our local juniors who will be competing
against players from India, Switzerland, Mexico, Sweden, United States,
China, Dominican Republican and other players from all around the
world.
