Following the success of the Junior World Championships in October 2018, this past week Bahamian Judo President D'Arcy Rahming met with International Judo Federation Officials in Tokyo, Japan at the World Judo Congress. The purpose of the meeting was to finalize details of the Judo World Veterans Tournament  coming to the Bahamas.

The Veterans is the World's largest judo tournament with over 1000 athletes over the age of 35. It is a much sought after tournament as the Veterans tend to turn the tournament into a large family vacation bringing kids and grand kids of all ages for an extended stay.

"We are delighted that Honorable Minister Rolle gave us the go ahead for such a prestigious event. The event is great for the economy as it is held in our slower tourism month of October." said Rahming. "We have advanced our discussion with Sports Director Tim Munnings and are in the process of including a judo festival which will allow hundreds of Bahamian Youth to participate while the Veterans are here."

Currently the Senior World Championships are taking place in Tokyo, Japan. Cynthia Rahming will compete in the 57kg division alongside Coach Oneysi Pons on Tuesday against first round opponent from Tunisia. Cynthia spent the past few days with Coach Rhadi Ferguson in Florida prior to the tournament brushing up on her armbar skills. Cynthia continues in her quest to remain on the qualification list for the Olympic Games in 2020.

In the meantime Judo classes continue in the Bahamas at the National Training Center at Holy Family Parish and affiliated schools. Persons wishing to contact the Judo Federation can do so at allstarbahamas@gmail.com.
