Local talent displayed at 24th annual A.I.D. Claycourt Tennis Tournament

Nassau, Bahamas - The past two weeks saw a display of tennis talent among a diverse group of players. There was participation from both the male and female populace. The players range from the juniors to the veterans.  This year was the 24th edition of the AID Claycourt Championships. The event was concluded on Saturday afternoon at the Gym Tennis Club. The final match featured Mr. Vince Andrews & Mr. Stephen Thompson who defeated Mr. Michael Butler & Mr. Nolan Johnson 6-1, 6-4 in the Men’s Jr. Veterans Doubles final.

A total of seven divisions were played during the two-week tournament. The matches were competitive and tennis enthusiasts enjoyed the matchplay, techniques and skills on display. Please see below for the results of the other categories played:

Ladies Jr. Vets Singles – Marion Bain

Ladies Jr. Vets Doubles – Marion Bain & Gabriella Fraser

Men’s Open Singles – William Fountain

Men’s Open Doubles – William Fountain & Robert Smith

Men’s Jr. Vets Singles – Brent Johnson

Mixed Doubles – William & Nikkita Fountain

At the trophy presentation, Mrs. Shirlene Watson, wife of AID’s Executive Chairman, Harold Watson, presented the trophies to the finalists. Mrs. Watson took the time out to thank the Gym Club for  hosting of the event and also gave special mention to Referee, Mickey Williams & Chief Umpire, Bradley Bain, while also promising something special for the 25th edition of the tournament next year.
